Isle of Klezbos sextet approaches Yiddish musical traditions with loving irreverence and profound respect. Performing neo-folkloric tunes, re-grooved standards, and genre-transcending originals, the ensemble's gorgeous arrangements range from rambunctious to swinging to ethereal. The band has toured from Vienna to Vancouver and aired on HBO, NPR, CBS Sunday Morning, PBS and "The L Word" – as well as celebrating KlezBiGay Pride shows each June since 1999. Isle of Klezbos has enjoyed artistic collaborations with Jill Sobule and Gregg Bordowitz, and creative commissions from Kiki Smith and Scissor Sisters. The group was featured in bandleader Eve Sicular's Off-Off Broadway hit "J.Edgar Klezmer: Songs from My Grandmother's FBI Files," praised by The New York Times for lively score & smart writing. Lauded by New York Magazine for "cutting edge klezmer" and by The L.A. Blade as "rapturous and rollicking," the bandmates' chemistry is also catalyzed by stratospheric solos. Their latest album Yiddish Silver Screen (Zilberne Kino) salutes the band's 25th 'silver' anniversary as well as reawakened repertoire inspired by forgotten vintage film soundtrack gems. The sextet's earlier releases include acclaimed concert recording Live From Brooklyn; award-winning debut Greetings from the Isle of Klezbos; and cameo tracks on sibling band Metropolitan Klezmer's Mosaic Persuasion.
